CAPOEIRA MOVEMENT WORKSHOPS AND CAPOEIRA MUSIC WORKSHOPS
Siriguejo started training capoeira in Baltimore, MD in 2005.
Siriguejo was graduated by Meste Ray on December 9, 2011. During his stay in Brasil (2011-2014) Siriguejo gained much experience training with various mestres, professors, and instructors of capoeira. He has trained and participated in numerous rodas in academies, batizados, and in the street. He is proficient in capoeira angola, benguela, and regional.
Instruction focuses on the physical aspects of Capoeira: attack, defensive, evasive and flourish movements as well as their combinations and applications. Through workshops, participants also gain understanding of the historical, philosophical, lyrical, and martial significance of Capoeira.
As a part of learning the movements and lyrics, participants also slowly learn Brazilian Portuguese. Through training of capoeira itself, participants gain strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, rhythm, self awareness and self confidence.
There is an innate musical aspect to Capoeira and as such, the necessary instrumentation aspects are often taught in their own workshops. Music workshops focus on the entire bataria (berimbau, pandeiro, atabaque, agogo, recoreco, and triangle), or any of individual instruments. Different rhythms (toques) and their context for capoeira are taught. Through these workshops, participants also gain understanding of the historical, philosophical, lyrical, and martial significance of Capoeira.
BONUS: Learning to play musical instruments has been shown to improve brain function and fight off dementia (google it.)
